Based on the short-lived American game show of the same name, Catchphrase is a British game show. In the UK, it debuted on ITV on January 12, 1986, and ran until April 23, 2004. As of 2023, a revival that debuted on ITV on April 7, 2013, is still going strong.
From its 1986 debut until 1999, Northern Irish comedian Roy Walker hosted Catchphrase. After taking over as host in 2000, Nick Weir continued to host the show until series 16 concluded on April 23, 2004. Mark Curry took Weir’s position for the last series, which aired from June 24, 2002, to December 19, 2002, in a daytime slot.
On August 27, 2012, STV Studios and Digital Rights Group (DRG) produced a resurrected pilot featuring Stephen Mulhern as the new host.
Theme music was composed by Marc Sylvan and Richard Jacques, while Steve Radosh created the catchphrase. The Production location is Dock 10 Studio and produced by the STV Studios.
In order to win, contestants must correctly identify the catchphrase by responding to the host’s questions.
